Our Leaders

Very Rev. Emmanuel Evans Essien is the Minister-in-Charge of the Ghana Methodist Church of Toronto and the Superintendent Minister of the Canada Circuit, overseeing all Methodist churches in Canada. A deeply mission-minded and evangelical leader, he is a devoted servant of God whom the Lord has used mightily in Ghana and continues to use powerfully in Canada and throughout the diaspora.

He holds a Bachelor of Divinity (BD) and a Master of Arts (MA), which provide a strong theological and academic foundation for his pastoral and administrative leadership. With over 26 years of experience in ministry, church governance, and strategic oversight within the Methodist Church Ghana, Very Rev. Essien is widely respected for his spiritual depth, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the holistic growth of the Church.

A signature of his ministry is his deep devotion to prayer. As a fervent prayer warrior, he not only leads by example but also encourages and equips members to develop a vibrant and disciplined prayer life, empowering them to live faithfully and boldly as disciples of Christ.

His leadership has guided numerous community-centred initiatives and fostered dynamic multicultural ministries across international contexts. He is passionate about evangelism, discipleship, and pastoral care-building Christ-centred communities that are spiritually grounded, socially responsive, and mission-driven.

The Very Rev. Essien is happily married to Mrs. Matilda Essien, a woman of God, and together they are blessed with five children. His family remains a pillar of support and a living testimony to his commitment to faith, family, and ministry.
