Susanna Wesley Mission Auxiliary (SUWMA)

SUWMA traces its origins to the late 1950s at Sekondi Wesley Methodist Church, where a group of dedicated women led by Mrs. Hannah Ato Ahomah supported the Church by cleaning and decorating chapels and serving refreshments during Synods and Conferences. Their commitment laid the foundation for a nationwide women's ministry.

In 1960, the movement was formally organized as the Methodist Ladies Association under the leadership of Rev. Dr. F. C. F. Grant. Similar branches were later established at Adabraka in 1970 and Kumasi between 1974 and 1982, expanding the movement across the Connexion while promoting Christian fellowship, social outreach, and women's development.

A major step toward national unity came in 1986 when delegates from the various branches adopted common aims, objectives, colours, and a unified identity. In 1988, the organization adopted the name "Susanna Wesley Mission Auxiliary" in honour of Susanna Wesley, recognizing her enduring influence on Methodism and Christian family life.

After years of advocacy, SUWMA received official recognition from the Methodist Conference in 1994. Since then, it has expanded throughout all Methodist dioceses in Ghana and into the diaspora, producing training materials, revising its bye-laws, relaunching Junior SUWMA, and strengthening women's ministry across the Church.
